It's stating the obvious to say our area has been very hard hit in the down economy. This, of course has led to a very large number of unnocupied homes. These bank owned properties may pose a risk to children in the area. There are so many of them that it's a fair estimate that everyone in our community has one near them.

Shifu Liz teaching outward defense to the kids. Although it looks like a very easy technique it's actually difficult to learn. Training is required to be able to move backward while blocking forward. When doing it on an opponent it's necessary to learn how to maintain the proper fighting distance to control the situation.
The technique develops these skill as well as developing a high level of proprioception.
This morning I observed something I have never observed outside of areas dominated by Asian culture.
Most mornings I walk my dog Thalia through Valley Springs and up the Veterans memorial trail. On the way I pass the bus stop and it is usually populated by people sitting, smoking, watching me walk. As a general rule they look bored and generally frustrated at having to sit and wait. Wasting away their time.
I recieve emails about our free online kung fu lessons almost daily from young men in all kinds of situations in countries such as Egypt, India, Iran, Etc.
They have various stories. Some are just being bullied like anywhere else. Some are fighting in citizen based military groups or asssisting militaries trying to maintain safety in their countries.
