On May 15, 2007 Shun Shifu Phil Weaver and Shifu Liz Weaver were honored with a Certificate of Recognition from The Prevent Child Abuse Calaveras Council and Parent's Anonymous, Inc. At a special ceremony Phil and Liz were presented this award for demonstrating strong parent leadership, and making a positive difference in the lives of children and families. Below is the nomination letter the council received that prompted them to honor them with this special award.
"Phil and Liz Weaver are not parents themselves, but they are role models, mentors, and parent figures to many, many young people in the Valley Springs area. The Weavers operate Sheng Chi Kung Fu in Valley Springs but they are so much more than business owners and managers. Phil and Liz Weaver give so freely of their personal time, devotion and attention, in addition to their professional instruction and physical physical place of business. The Weavers attend workshops to learn all they can about keeping children safe, they volunteer to give lessons and demonstrations at our various fairs and festivals, and they get to know each of their students personally - so much so that the children as well as their parents feel they have a safe place to go and an understanding, nonjudgmental ear to listen to them in good times and in bad. Phil and Liz Weaver are incredibly special people who deserve this award more than anyone else I can think of. I honestly cannot believe that I did not think to nominate them the very first year we decided to honor Parent Leaders... They are the "definition" of Parent Leaders. If every business owner in Calaveras County treated children and families with as much care and thoughtfulness as these two, our community would be an absolutely perfect place to live!"
Thank you Tammy and Mark Beilstein, for such a heartfelt and sincere letter of recommendation. We truly appreciate it.
